Global Engagements Centerpiece:
The Business of Doing Good, 2007-2009

Strongly encouraged are initiatives that involve students and faculty in practices of engaged and experiential learning, activism, social entrepreneurship, service, and community and leadership building.

Events and projects might include creating a network for student participation in global microfinance to aid developing countries or to consider festivals to teach both the art and the business of worldmusic.

Groups from many disiciplines and majors could study health and environmental impacts in local communities, and record culture and histories. Some projects might focus on building a socially conscious, sustainable enterprise. Projects will engage in the business of doing good.

Upcoming Events

October 2008: Skid Row Film and Community Action Film screening and social action fair with Grammy-award winning rapper Pras Michel, formerly of the Fugees. Organized by Awareness to Action with coalition of faculty and student groups, including Bloustein School.

Ongoing Projects

Microcredit Bank and Policy Learning Community
Initiative developed by the Roosevelt Institution with support from members of allied student group Intersect Fund and Professor Douglas Blair's course on Global Microfinance. Currently developing a student-run microcredit institution for supplying loans, expertise, and support to small businesses in the Rutgers community with outreach to immigrant groups and international constituencies.
Socially Responsible Business
Program to be developed in conjunction with Student Centers and Get Involved around campus visit of high-profile business figures such as Ben and Jerry of ice cream fame. Connections developed with Corporate Social Responsibility faculty on the business of doing good.
